Club Tenerife Masters Secures 50 Spots in 2025 World Aquatics Rankings

Spanish masters swimming is once again making waves on the global stage. According to the 2025 World Aquatics Top Ten Rankings, Club Tenerife Masters has secured spots for 25 of its members, proving the club’s long-term commitment to high-level competition.

The club achieved a total of 50 world rankings—31 in individual events and 19 in relays. This success highlights the team's impressive depth and versatility across various distances and swimming styles. Leading the way are Fernando Davara with eight rankings, followed by Conchita Escatllar with six and Jean-Claude Lestideau with five.

Relay events were a major highlight for the club. The men’s 4x100-meter freestyle teams (+280 and +240 categories) both earned second-place world rankings. Additionally, the club secured two third-place finishes: one for Lestideau in the 200-meter butterfly (+75) and another for the 4x100 medley relay team (+240).

Club president Marcos Cabrera credits these results to the collective effort and perseverance of the entire team, which has helped establish Tenerife Masters as an international benchmark. Technical director Bernardo Núñez noted that the club’s ability to compete at an elite level across all specialties is a testament to their global competitiveness.

These achievements underscore the evolution of masters swimming in Spain, which has grown from a recreational hobby into a highly professionalized sport. The success of Tenerife Masters serves as a clear indicator of the strength and health of masters sports in the country today.
