Montaña de Guaza mountain suffers from garbage and the consequences of a fire: locals demand action

In Tenerife, a political force is demanding that the authorities remove the garbage and the aftermath of the fire from the Montaña de Guaza mountain, a natural monument suffering from human activity and the housing crisis.

In Arona, there are concerns about the state of the Montaña de Guaza mountain, which is a natural monument. The local political force Más por Arona is calling on the Cabildo of Tenerife (local authorities) to urgently remove the garbage and the consequences of the fire there.

The fact is that a repeater station burned down on the mountain last April. Since then, charred debris has remained there, polluting the unique nature.

Más por Arona emphasizes that this is an important area for Arona and the entire south of Tenerife, valuable from the point of view of nature, history and tourism. Therefore, in their opinion, it is unacceptable that for more than a year there has been such a terrible sight: a pile of garbage, burnt remains and complete neglect.

By the way, this is not the first fire in this area. At the time, it was even suggested that it could have been sabotage, as antennas were damaged, causing mobile and radio communications to disappear in an area inhabited by more than 60,000 people.

Since the Cabildo is responsible for this area, Más por Arona publicly demands that they finally put things in order there.

Unfortunately, this protected area has been severely affected by human activity. In addition to the fires and the remains of antennas, the Palm-Mar structures are located on the eastern side of the mountain.

Also, due to the acute housing crisis on the island, especially in the south, people are forced to build shacks in this area, very close to popular tourist destinations such as Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje.

In general, the protected area covers more than 725 hectares and includes the Montaña de Guaza mountain. It is bordered by Los Cristianos to the west, the town of Guaza and Palm-Mar to the east, the road connecting Los Cristianos to Guaza to the north, and the sea to the south.
