Civil Guard Urges Safety First After Accidents
The Civil Guard advises drivers to prioritize safety and secure the scene after an accident before assisting victims, to prevent further incidents.
The Civil Guard has issued an important reminder on its X account for drivers about how to act after a road accident. The warning stresses that your own safety and the safety of others must come first, advising against immediately rushing to help those involved.
According to the Civil Guard, the first step is to stop, check the surroundings for new dangers, and alert other road users. It's crucial to clearly mark the accident area and ensure that approaching vehicles slow down. Only once the area is safe and under control should you consider helping victims. This order of actions aims to prevent more accidents and makes it easier for emergency services to get to the scene safely and without obstruction. The key is to act carefully, avoiding quick decisions that could make the situation worse.
This reminder is part of the Civil Guard's broader goal to improve road safety and reduce accident rates. This goal is shared with other organizations, such as the Directorate General of Roads (DGC), which is part of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. The DGC defines "Accident Concentration Sections" (TCAs) as stretches of road, usually up to 3 kilometers long, where many accidents occur.
In this context, the latest data published in May 2025 by the Ministry of Transport shows that 105 TCAs have been identified on the Spanish Road Network. Of these, 73 are on major highways and 32 are on conventional roads, covering a total length of 84.1 kilometers. Identifying these critical points is essential for putting in place preventive measures and improving road infrastructure.
Through these types of communications, the Civil Guard aims to encourage a more thoughtful and effective response to road emergencies, highlighting the need to act carefully and avoid impulsive decisions that could worsen dangerous situations.
