Spanish Civil Guard officers have shut down an illegal cannabis club in Tenerife and arrested one individual following an investigation into the illicit sale of narcotics to tourists.

Security forces in the Canary Islands are continuing their crackdown on illegal drug trafficking operations disguised as cannabis associations. The Civil Guard recently shut down a premises in Granadilla de Abona, Tenerife, that was operating as an unregulated narcotics distribution point.

The operation, known as "Operation Nisqa," resulted in one arrest and charges against a second individual for crimes against public health. Investigators from the local station spent several months, starting in May of last year, documenting how the establishment was operating well outside the legal requirements for cannabis clubs.

Agents discovered that the club was selling hashish and marijuana directly to third parties, including tourists who had no prior membership or connection to the group. Authorities are working to stop this recurring practice, which turns cannabis clubs—meant for private, shared consumption among members—into illegal retail businesses.

Following a court-authorized search, officers seized various quantities of drugs, cash, and documentation to serve as evidence. With the premises closed and the suspects facing court proceedings, the Civil Guard has highlighted the ongoing challenge of addressing these illegal activities in popular tourist areas.
