Civil Guard Seizes Over 8,500 Illicit Items in Tenerife Retail Crackdown
The Spanish Civil Guard has seized over 8,500 items from a retail store in Güímar, Tenerife, due to significant violations of tax regulations and product safety labeling standards.
The Civil Guard recently carried out an operation in Güímar, Tenerife, to ensure retail businesses are following tax laws and supply chain safety standards. Officers from the Fiscal and Border Patrol (PAFIF) seized over 8,500 items from a local shop after discovering significant issues with product tracking and tax compliance.
The seized items fall into two main categories. First, officers found 8,134 food and drink containers that failed to meet safety and nutrition standards. These products lacked the mandatory labeling and language requirements needed to provide clear information to consumers, as required by law.
Second, the inspection uncovered 420 bottles of alcohol that had bypassed tax regulations. These items lacked the necessary tax seals, violating laws designed to prevent fraud and ensure that alcohol sold to the public meets essential health and safety standards.
The Civil Guard has filed a report and handed the case over to the relevant authorities. The seized goods will remain in custody while the investigation continues. This operation highlights the importance of retail oversight, as improper labeling and the evasion of tax seals not only create unfair competition but can also pose serious risks to public health. The business owners now face potential fines and the permanent loss of the seized merchandise.
