Civil Guard Seizes 375kg of Hashish in Tenerife Drug Bust
Spanish Civil Guard officers seized 375 kilograms of hashish and arrested three suspects following a high-speed pursuit in the Las Chafiras industrial estate in Tenerife.
The Civil Guard has dealt a significant blow to drug trafficking in the Canary Islands following a major operation in the south of Tenerife. Officers seized approximately 375 kilograms of hashish and arrested three people, highlighting the ongoing efforts of security forces to monitor industrial zones and logistics hubs where drug distribution networks often operate.
The operation began in the Las Chafiras industrial estate in San Miguel de Abona, when officers from the Playa de las Américas Rural Patrol spotted a suspicious van. When the driver refused to stop, a pursuit followed. Officers used sirens, lights, and drew their service weapons—without firing—to force the vehicle to pull over.
Upon searching the van, police discovered fifteen bales of hashish. Investigators believe the suspects were transporting the drugs to a storage site, known as a "nursery," where the stash would have been broken down for smaller-scale distribution.
The three suspects and the seized drugs were taken to the Civil Guard station in Granadilla de Abona. They are expected to appear before the local court in the coming days to face charges related to public health crimes. This operation underscores the vital role of rural patrol units in identifying suspicious activity and dismantling drug networks across the island.
