Civil Guard Seizes 22kg of Cocaine at Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port
Spanish Civil Guard officers seized 22 kilograms of high-purity cocaine worth over 1.3 million euros and arrested two individuals during a routine vehicle inspection at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The Civil Guard recently intercepted 22 kilograms of high-purity cocaine at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, highlighting the ongoing issue of drug trafficking between the Canary Islands. The operation, conducted by the Fiscal and Borders Section, UDAIFF, and Customs Surveillance, resulted in the seizure of drugs with an estimated street value of over 1.3 million euros.
The discovery occurred during a routine check of a vehicle arriving from Gran Canaria. Officers became suspicious due to the occupants' evasive behavior and inconsistent stories, leading to a thorough search of the car. Inside the trunk, they found 20 sealed bundles that tested positive for cocaine, along with nearly 5,000 euros in cash.
This operation emphasizes the importance of security checks at island entry and exit points in disrupting organized crime. By dismantling this transport network, authorities have dealt a significant financial blow to criminal groups and proven the effectiveness of their current risk-analysis protocols. The two individuals involved have been arrested and remanded in custody by the court while the investigation continues.
