A Civil Guard officer sustained injuries while performing a daring double rescue of a man who fell into rough seas off the coast of Adeje, Tenerife.

A Civil Guard officer’s heroic rescue off the coast of Adeje, Tenerife, has highlighted the extreme dangers emergency responders face during humanitarian operations. The incident began last Saturday when authorities were alerted to a missing 28-year-old man in the La Caleta area.

Officers located the man on a rocky outcrop between the beaches of Los Morteros and Diego Hernández. As they approached, the man attempted to move across the rocks but fell into the sea, struggling against heavy swells and strong winds.

The Civil Guard officer immediately shed his gear and jumped into the water, successfully pulling the man away from the rocks as the current threatened to drag him against them. The situation turned even more perilous during the transfer to a rescue boat, when the man began acting erratically and threw himself back into the water, forcing the officer to perform a second, high-risk rescue.

This operation underscores the immense challenges emergency teams face in difficult, hard-to-reach coastal areas. Both the rescued man and the officer were taken to the hospital for treatment; the officer has since been placed on temporary medical leave due to injuries sustained during the rescue.
