The Civil Guard celebrated its 182nd anniversary in Adeje by honoring officers for their contributions to public safety, inter-agency cooperation, and the management of humanitarian challenges along the Atlantic migration route.

The Civil Guard recently celebrated its 182nd anniversary at the Auditorio de la Villa de Adeje, using the occasion to honor officers and collaborators across the Canary Islands. These awards recognized not only individual achievements but also the growing challenges security forces face, particularly regarding migration and the need for stronger cooperation between agencies.

The primary focus was on 23 agents and commanders based in El Hierro. Their efforts have been vital in managing the humanitarian and logistical challenges of the Atlantic migration route. The commander of the Valverde post and the head of the Investigation Area accepted the medals on behalf of the team.

The ceremony also highlighted the importance of inter-agency teamwork. Ricardo Rivero, Chief of the Granadilla Local Police, was inducted into the Order of Civil Guard Merit, with support from the municipality’s Councilor for Security, María Candelaria Rodríguez. Rivero noted that effective public safety relies on a shared strategy between local police and the Civil Guard, regardless of jurisdictional boundaries. Víctor Fumero, president of the National Federation of Rural Guards, was also honored for his long-standing support of the force.

Several individual careers were also celebrated. Lieutenant Isaac Manzano, commander of the Guía de Isora post, received a medal for his success in dismantling criminal groups targeting local hotels. Additionally, the service of Adeje-based agent Ayoze Zebenzuí was recognized, alongside Commander Antonio Márquez. Márquez, a veteran of the Canary Islands Air Service, received his award following a demanding period of service at the General Directorate’s headquarters in Madrid.
