Civil Guard Dismantles Drug-Dealing Operation in Tacoronte
Spanish Civil Guard officers have arrested a 69-year-old man in Tacoronte, Tenerife, for drug trafficking after seizing cocaine, cash, and transaction records during a routine patrol.
The Civil Guard in northern Tenerife has shut down a local drug-dealing operation based in Tacoronte. A 69-year-old man from El Sauzal has been arrested and charged with a crime against public health.
Officers made the arrest after spotting a suspicious exchange near a restaurant while on routine patrol. After stopping the buyer and confirming they were in possession of cocaine, police arrested the seller. A search of the suspect revealed seven pre-packaged doses of cocaine, 460 euros in cash, and a handwritten ledger detailing his transactions. The man has since been handed over to the courts.
This operation highlights the ongoing issue of small-scale drug dealing in local communities. While these operations are smaller than major trafficking networks, they remain a significant concern for residents. The discovery of a transaction ledger is common in these cases and helps investigators prove that the illegal activity was habitual. Under the Spanish Penal Code, drug trafficking—including the sale of cocaine—carries penalties that depend on the amount seized and the offender's criminal history.
