'Chinchipe' Wins Inaugural RTVE Talent-Quirino Award for Ibero-American Animation
The animated project Chinchipe has been named the inaugural winner of the RTVE Talent Award-Quirino Awards, securing 25,000 euros in funding and a distribution deal with RTVE Play to bolster Ibero-American co-productions.
The Ibero-American animation industry has reached a new milestone with the inaugural RTVE Talent Award-Quirino Awards. This initiative aims to strengthen creative ties between Spain and Latin America, with the project Chinchipe named as the first winner. The project will receive 25,000 euros in development funding.
Announced on International Animation Day, the award offers more than just financial support; it also guarantees that the finished project will be featured on RTVE Play, ensuring it reaches a wide audience. Chinchipe is a collaborative effort between the Spanish firm Arriate Studio and the Ecuadorian company Matte CG. It is directed and written by María Luquero, with Fran Lobón serving as art director.
The team plans to begin production next summer, with the goal of securing full financing by 2027. This award is part of a strategic partnership between RTVE and the Quirino Awards, which will hold its tenth edition in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on April 23.
These incentives are vital for professionalizing the short film sector. While short films have long been a hub for technical and narrative innovation, they often struggle to reach mainstream audiences. By involving the public broadcaster in the creative process, the initiative aims to raise production standards and help Ibero-American stories reach a global stage. Ultimately, this reinforces co-production as a key strategy for competing in today’s demanding international market.
