The Chimbesque Wrestling Club has secured a historic clean sweep of all major regional titles, led by star wrestler Eusebio Ledesma, who has now equaled his brother’s record of six regional championships.
The Chimbesque Wrestling Club has reached a historic milestone, cementing its status as the top team in the region after an impeccable season. As reported by journalist C. García, the San Miguel de Abona club achieved a clean sweep, winning every major title available: the Tenerife Super Cup, the CaixaBank Tenerife League, the DISA Government of the Canary Islands League Tournament, and the Cajasiete Cup. This dominance follows their regional title win last year—the club’s first in over 30 years—and is largely driven by the performance of their star wrestler, Eusebio Ledesma.
Ledesma’s recent success highlights his personal growth, as he has successfully navigated both physical and mental challenges. Now a six-time regional champion, he credits his success to resilience during high-pressure moments. A prime example occurred during the Regional League Final Four, where he bounced back from a semifinal loss to Joaquín Pérez to win the sudden-death final against Fernando Rodríguez.
Ledesma’s success has also sparked a debate about the nature of Canarian wrestling. Standing 1.80 meters tall, he has proven that success is not just about physical stature, but about refining one’s technique and style. He plans to maintain this high level of performance next season and has committed to staying with Chimbesque, despite interest from other clubs.
With six regional titles, Ledesma has now equaled his brother Marcos’s record, placing him just behind the legendary Francis Pérez, known as "Pollito de la Frontera." However, Ledesma remains humble, noting that it is difficult to compare athletes across different eras and physical profiles.
Looking ahead, the 27-year-old is eager to branch out into other disciplines, with beach wrestling being his primary goal. While his current commitments to Canarian wrestling limit his travel, he hopes to compete in the Spanish Championship by 2027, provided his health and club schedule allow it. This ambition reflects a wrestler currently at the peak of his professional career.
