Chimbesque Retains Regional Wrestling Title in Dramatic Final Victory

The Chimbesque Wrestling Club has cemented its dominance in the regional scene by successfully defending its title at the DISA Government of the Canary Islands First Category Tournament. This second consecutive win for the San Miguel de Abona team confirms a major shift in the sport, ending decades of struggle and proving the club's strength at the highest level.

The championship, held at the Mencey Tegueste arena in front of nearly 3,000 fans, saw star wrestler Eusebio Ledesma take center stage. Ledesma, who has now won six regional titles, was the key to the Tenerife team’s strategy. His performance was vital during the final moments of the match, especially after their opponent, Tamanca, fought back from an early 1-5 and 2-6 deficit to take a 9-7 lead.

With the score tied at 11, the title came down to a final showdown between Ledesma and Tamanca’s star, Fernando Rodríguez. After two cautious draws, Ledesma executed a decisive move just before the time limit to secure the victory.

While Ledesma was the standout, the win was a true team effort. Lamine Dieng’s three points helped build the early lead, while Eduardo Navarro played a crucial tactical role by eliminating Ruymán Peñate and drawing against Carlos Alonso to bring the score to 10-10. Additionally, Carlos Jerez’s efforts to wear down the opposing team’s star were essential in leveling the playing field.
