Chimbesque Advances to DISA Tournament Final After Thrilling Semifinal Win
The Chimbesque Wrestling Club advanced to the DISA Government of the Canary Islands Tournament final after a 12-10 victory over Tegueste, where they will face Tamanca for the championship title.
The Chimbesque Wrestling Club is one win away from defending its title in the DISA Government of the Canary Islands Tournament after a thrilling semifinal round. The San Miguel de Abona team secured their place in the final by defeating the host team, Tegueste, with a score of 12-10.
The match was a test of nerves and strategy. Tegueste took an early lead, thanks to a strong performance from Iriome López, who helped the hosts pull ahead 3-6 and 4-7. However, the momentum shifted when Chimbesque’s star wrestler, Eusebio Ledesma, entered the ring. Although Ledesma initially lost to Joaquín Pérez, he quickly regained his form. He was supported by a vital team effort, particularly from Víctor Pimienta, who defeated both Sandro Ramos and Ancor Suárez to keep Chimbesque in the contest.
The deciding moment came when Ledesma faced Tegueste’s top wrestler, Mamadou Camara. By managing his warnings carefully and reading the clock effectively, Ledesma neutralized Camara’s attacks to clinch the victory for his team.
Chimbesque will now face Tamanca from La Palma in this afternoon’s final at the Mencey Tegueste arena. Tamanca earned their spot in a nail-biting 12-11 victory over Unión Gáldar. That match came down to the final pairing, where Fernando Rodríguez secured the win for Tamanca by countering an attack from Alberto Zamora.
This regional tournament highlights the best of Canarian wrestling and proves that the team-based format is a powerful way to revitalize the sport. The competition continues to show how balanced rosters and the tactical brilliance of star wrestlers—especially under the pressure of the sport's strict warning rules—define the champions of this traditional discipline.
