Chedey Reyes’ Sci-Fi Thriller ‘La Cosa en la Niebla’ Sets Nationwide Spanish Release
Gran Canarian filmmaker Chedey Reyes is set to debut his genre-bending sci-fi feature La Cosa en la Niebla, an ambitious, minimalist production set entirely within an aircraft cockpit that begins a nationwide theatrical tour on September 17.
The Spanish film industry—particularly its independent sector—is increasingly using the fantasy genre as a playground for technical and narrative innovation. Gran Canarian filmmaker Chedey Reyes is currently preparing for the release of his debut feature, La Cosa en la Niebla (The Thing in the Mist), a film that blends genres while embracing a minimalist approach to space.
The film has already garnered attention for its unique setting: the entire story unfolds inside an aircraft cockpit. To achieve a high level of visual immersion, the production team built a full-scale replica of the cockpit with working controls and used LED screen technology to integrate the background. The script, written by animation veteran Juanjo Ramírez Mascaró, follows two crew members—played by Argentine actor Martín Garabal and actress Elena de Lara—as they face an interdimensional crisis.
The project is notable for its technical ambition and its clear tribute to 1980s horror and science fiction. The casting of Garabal, known for the award-winning series División Palermo, adds further appeal to the production. The film is supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, and Radio Televisión Canaria, and is co-produced by Jugoplastika and Te Quiero Metales.
The film’s premiere tour begins on September 17 at the Yelmo Las Arenas complex in Gran Canaria, with the cast and crew in attendance. The following day, the tour moves to the MK2 Cine Paz in Madrid, kicking off a series of special screenings throughout September and October. The tour will visit Tenerife—with screenings at the TEA running until early October—as well as Barcelona, Valencia, Bilbao, A Coruña, Vigo, Seville, Granada, and Málaga.
This extensive release schedule highlights a commitment to the theatrical experience for a film that, despite its sci-fi premise, uses its confined setting to focus on the psychological tension of its characters. The director and cast will attend various screenings across the country, with the final stop featuring Garabal scheduled for Barcelona.
