Canarian artist Chago Melián brings his multidisciplinary retrospective, Toda una vida, to the Auditorio de Tenerife this Saturday, blending music and painting in a performance celebrating his career and cultural influences.

Chago Melián, a key figure in Canarian culture, is celebrating his career with a unique stage production that goes far beyond a typical concert. Titled Toda una vida (A Whole Life), the show is a multidisciplinary retrospective that will arrive at the Auditorio de Tenerife’s Symphony Hall this Saturday, May 23.

The project serves as both a musical journey and an art exhibition, highlighting the connection between Melián’s two passions: music and painting. Throughout the performance, projections of his artwork illustrate his belief that the two disciplines are deeply linked. The production is led by musical director Francis Hernández and features a large ensemble of 30 musicians, including the Tenerife Chamber Orchestra and the Al Emigrante choir and band.

The show, which has already visited Gran Canaria and La Gomera, traces Melián’s personal and professional life, with a particular focus on his Italian and Hawaiian influences. For the Tenerife performance, he will be joined by soprano Candelaria González, musician José Manuel Ramos, and dancer Yurena Namahana, who will perform with her hula group.

The tour continues to Lanzarote on May 29, Fuerteventura on May 31, and La Palma on June 28. Each stop includes an exhibition of Melián’s paintings, helping to showcase his cultural identity and the emotional bond between the Canary Islands and Hawaii.

Melián’s dedication to local culture will continue on June 12, when he performs alongside Los Sabandeños at an event in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife ahead of a Mass led by Pope Leo XIV. The event will also feature an original piece by composer Pablo Cebrián. Melián, who received the Taburiente Prize in 2021, remains committed to building his artistic legacy by blending different forms of creative expression.
