Cepsa Rebrands as Moeve to Lead Spain’s Energy Transition
Spanish energy company Moeve, formerly Cepsa, is rebranding to focus on decarbonization through investments in second-generation biofuels, green hydrogen, and electric vehicle infrastructure.
Spain’s energy sector is undergoing a major industrial shift, and Moeve—formerly known as Cepsa—is positioning itself at the forefront of this change. The company has rebranded to align with its "Positive Motion" strategy, a long-term plan that focuses on decarbonization and sustainable mobility.
At the heart of this transformation is a move toward a more diverse range of products. Moeve is currently building what will be the largest second-generation biofuel facility in southern Europe. Alongside this, the company is investing heavily in green hydrogen and expanding its network of ultra-fast electric vehicle chargers. In the Canary Islands, where Moeve has operated for over 95 years, the company has already installed 11 charging points across seven locations, with another 10 projects in the works.
For the Canary Islands, this shift is an operational necessity. With the region aiming for full decarbonization by 2040, Moeve is promoting second-generation biofuels as an immediate solution. Because these fuels—including sustainable aviation fuel and HVO 100 for road transport—work with existing combustion engines, they can reduce emissions without requiring costly changes to current vehicles, logistics, or power systems.
Moeve’s leadership in the islands emphasizes that this transition requires close cooperation with local government and business leaders. The company aims to transform into a "multi-energy hub" that supports the specific needs of the Canary Islands. By combining technological innovation with local economic goals, Moeve hopes to prove that the energy transition can be a collaborative effort that benefits both the private sector and the community.
