CD Unión Isora Warns of Collapse Amid Facility Neglect and Funding Delays
Club Deportivo Unión Isora warns that deteriorating facility conditions and delayed municipal funding are threatening the future of its youth and women’s football programs.
Grassroots and women’s football in Guía de Isora is facing a crisis. According to Diario de Avisos, Club Deportivo Unión Isora has spoken out about the poor condition of the Tomás Hernández Alonso municipal field. The club warns that these ongoing issues are now threatening the future of its youth teams and its new women’s section.
The dispute began on June 30, when the club’s board submitted a list of urgent requests to the Councilor for Sports, Oliver Afonso. Three months later, the club says none of these repairs have been made. Key issues include a faulty lighting system, broken plumbing and sewage in the changing rooms, a lack of running water in public restrooms, and the need for safety fencing near the nearby ravine to prevent accidents. Additionally, the club is calling for the return of the canteen management, which has historically been a vital source of income.
The situation is made worse by a financial squeeze. The club reports that it has not yet received its municipal subsidy for the year. This delay has left the organization without the funds needed to cover basic costs, such as player registration fees, putting the women’s football program at serious risk.
This conflict reflects a common struggle between local sports clubs and town councils over the upkeep of public facilities. Under Canary Islands sports regulations, town councils are responsible for ensuring that public sports venues meet necessary safety and hygiene standards. So far, the Isora City Council has not provided an explanation regarding the missing funds or a timeline for repairs. The club, which relies heavily on the work of volunteers and families, is now calling for greater transparency and respect for its autonomy.
