CD Mensajero’s Focus on Local Talent and Stability Fuels Promotion Bid
Driven by institutional stability and a focus on local talent, CD Mensajero enters this Sunday's Segunda RFEF promotion playoffs against UD Tamaraceite following a highly consistent season.
Institutional stability and a focus on local talent have become the foundation of CD Mensajero’s recent success. According to the newspaper El Día, these pillars have made the La Palma-based club the most consistent team in the Tercera División over the last seven years. During this time, the club has secured two league titles and reached the promotion playoffs four times. This success is the result of a management strategy led by Guille Jiménez, who has successfully aligned the club’s historical expectations with the vision of head coach Cristian Pérez.
The team now has another chance to move up a division. Their journey in the Segunda RFEF promotion playoffs begins this Sunday at 12:00 PM, when they face UD Tamaraceite at the Juan Guedes stadium. The other semifinal, between San Mateo and San Fernando, will follow at 12:30 PM.
Management views this season as a success, noting a clear improvement in the standings compared to last year. Jiménez’s strategy focused on making the Silvestre Carrillo stadium a fortress, while the team’s improved performance in away games during the final stretch of the season helped them secure third place. This consistency is a significant step forward from the start of last season, when the team struggled early and was ultimately eliminated by San Fernando in the playoffs.
Beyond the scoreboard, the club remains committed to its youth academy and scouting local talent. For the board, Mensajero has a duty to its fans and its history to remain competitive, even when working with a limited budget. By prioritizing players developed on the island and investing in their youth programs, the club is building the necessary foundation to compete on the national stage.
