In the Granadilla de Abona City Council, debates on housing policies, specifically the situation in Los Hinojeros, concluded without support for the socialists' proposals to address the housing crisis.

Yesterday, housing was debated in the Granadilla de Abona City Council. The situation in Los Hinojeros was a particularly hot topic.

The Socialists proposed many different measures to address housing issues. However, they were not supported by deputies from the Canarian Coalition, the People's Party, and Vox.

The Socialists wanted the city authorities to analyze the current situation in the real estate market, recognize the municipality as a priority for receiving state aid, and create an organization to manage the housing stock.

Jennifer Miranda, a representative of the Socialists, said that when her team was in charge of the city, they started to solve the problem with Los Hinojeros – eight buildings where they planned to make about 300 apartments at an affordable price.

Miranda emphasized that these apartments "were never planned as social housing." She added that there is already an agreement on construction that allows the project to be implemented. In her opinion, this will help solve the housing crisis in the city. She also reminded that they had proposed a plan that included, for example, regulating rental prices for tourists and creating a list of unfinished buildings.

But Rubén Casanyas, who is responsible for housing in the Canarian Coalition, accused the Socialists of "giving people false hope" by presenting Los Hinojeros as social housing.

He stated that "there was no construction agreement or street names there," and therefore the project cannot move forward. The mayor of the city, José Domingo Regalado, announced that the street names have already been approved, and this is a necessary step to start construction.

"Before making decisions about housing, you need to conduct a real analysis of the situation, not just dream," he said.

He also announced that the authorities have commissioned a study to learn more about the housing situation in Granadilla. Based on this data, they plan to create an organization that will help people with renting, buying, repairing housing, and receiving state support.
