Her international popularity soared when she played Kate McCallister, Macaulay Culkin's mom in Home Alone, one of the most-watched family films of the 1990s.
Another memorable role was Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice, a character she reprised decades later for the film's sequel. She also appeared in satirical films and 'mockumentaries' like Best in Show and A Mighty Wind, cementing her reputation as an actress skilled in ensemble comedy.
On television, a career highlight was playing Moira Rose in Schitt's Creek, earning her an Emmy Award in 2020 and a Golden Globe in 2021. More recently, she received another Golden Globe nomination for her role as a producer in The Studio.
