The 20th anniversary Carrera por la Vida race, a joint effort by the Canaria Carrera por la Vida Foundation and the Arona and Adeje city councils, will take place on November 30th starting from Siam Mall, aiming to raise awareness and support for cancer prevention and research.

The 2025 Carrera por la Vida race was announced yesterday at the Mediterranean Palace Hotel in Arona. The event is a collaboration between the Canaria Carrera por la Vida Foundation and the city councils of Arona and Adeje.

The race will kick off on November 30th from Siam Mall, with participants running along the Golden Mile. There will be prizes and raffles. Those interested can still sign up.

The presentation was attended by local officials and Brigitte Gypen, president of the foundation. This year, Gypen is also the honorary godmother for the race's 20th anniversary.

Adeje's mayor, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, spoke about the race's history. He noted that while twenty years might not seem long, for this project, it's a significant achievement from humble beginnings to mobilizing thousands. He stressed the importance of the race's "preventive impact" over the past two decades, acknowledging it's hard to measure but central to the event's purpose. He also expressed hope that one day the race won't be needed because cancer will be a thing of the past.

Arona's mayor, Fátima Lemes, focused on the community aspect of the project. She said that every successful initiative needs a starting point and that the South of Tenerife is capable of great solidarity, not just in tourism. She thanked the honorary godmother and highlighted how widely the event resonates, as most people know someone affected by cancer. She also called for more support for cancer research. Lemes also mentioned that Arona is working towards establishing a specialized care center.

Brigitte Gypen, president of the foundation and this year's honorary godmother, shared that this edition is particularly meaningful for her. She described November 30th as a day that "must become a celebration of life."
