Carnival Tuesday's status as a local holiday varies significantly across the Canary Islands, particularly in Tenerife, requiring employees to consult their specific town's calendar to confirm their day off.

New information about public holidays in the Canary Islands shows a varied situation for Carnival Tuesday. While Santa Cruz de Tenerife prepares for its main day of celebrations, this day isn't a public holiday everywhere on the island. This creates different scenarios for workers and businesses.

On Tenerife, twenty towns have chosen to make Carnival Tuesday a local holiday. This is because municipalities can select two local holidays from the fourteen public holidays each year. However, eleven towns in Tenerife decided to use their local holidays for other important events, such as San Juan in June or San Marcos in April. This means people in those towns will work as usual on Carnival Tuesday.

Across the Canary Islands, the Directorate General of Labor has approved Carnival Tuesday as a day off in forty-six towns. The Ministry of Tourism and Employment, led by Jéssica de León, reminds everyone that these dates become official only after they are published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC). This ensures transparency and public awareness.

Because of these differences, employees should always check the specific holiday calendar for the town where their workplace is located. This is important to avoid confusion and ensure they follow current labor laws, as the job's location determines whether the day off is mandatory.
