The Canary Islands will install the largest Christmas tree in Spain.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is preparing to impress with Spain's largest 50-meter Christmas tree and large-scale Christmas illumination, transforming the city into the festive center of the Canary Islands.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is gearing up for some amazing Christmas holidays! The city authorities promise to install the largest Christmas tree in Spain – a whole 50 meters tall! It will be placed right on the lake in the Plaza de España, making this place the main center of Christmas entertainment in the Canary Islands.
Festive illuminations are already being installed throughout the city. Work is in full swing: power lines and switchboards are almost ready. Soon they will start hanging garlands, installing various figures and decorations so that the city shines by December.
The mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, says: "Santa Cruz has long been famous for its Christmas, which is a benchmark for all the Canary Islands. Therefore, we are preparing in advance to ensure that everything is on time and as it should be." He also added that the illumination not only decorates the city, but also helps local businesses, hotels and tourism.
And the advisor on communal issues, Carlos Tarife, announced that this year three more large streets will be decorated with illumination: Manuel Hermoso Rojas, Benito Pérez Armas and Príncipes de España. They have not been decorated before, so now the festive atmosphere will be even larger, because La Rambla and Avenida Marítima are already shining with lights.
The main star will be a 50-meter Christmas tree. To install it, the lake in the Plaza de España will first be drained – this is necessary for safety. The city will spend 100,000 euros on renting the tree, and a special company will install it.
"This will be a real highlight of the holidays, which will attract tourists and even the mayor of Vigo to come and see the best illumination in the country," Tarife joked, hinting that Spanish cities often compete for the best Christmas lighting.
Thanks to this, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is becoming one of the best places in the Canary Islands to enjoy Christmas, combining traditions, shopping and bright light shows for local residents and visitors.
