Candelaria has launched an 895,324-euro renovation project to modernize the Olegario beach area, focusing on improving accessibility, upgrading underground infrastructure, and revitalizing public spaces over the next eight months.

Candelaria’s coastline is entering a major transformation as work begins on the area surrounding Olegario beach. The local council says the project aims to fix long-standing infrastructure issues in the historic center. With a budget of 895,324 euros and an eight-month timeline, the goal is to bring the area up to modern standards for public services and accessibility.

The project covers 2,600 square meters and focuses primarily on removing architectural barriers. Currently, the steep slope makes it difficult for people with reduced mobility to move around independently. The renovation will restructure the terrain to ensure universal access, addressing a long-standing request from the community.

Beyond improving access, the plan includes a complete urban makeover. This involves repaving the roads and sidewalks on La Piscina Street, updating street furniture, and relocating beach amenities like showers. The seafront will also feature new landscaping, improved lighting, and a better drainage system to manage runoff.

The work also goes beneath the surface. The project includes a full upgrade of underground infrastructure, including water supply and irrigation lines, sewage systems, electrical wiring, and telecommunications cables. With the site now fenced off, construction is officially underway to modernize the area while balancing technical needs with a better public space.
