Candelaria Carnival Blends Global Stars with Local Family Fun
The Candelaria Carnival successfully engaged families and children last weekend with a 'Great Latin Night' featuring Óscar D’León, a vibrant children's parade, group awards, and a diverse choreographic festival.
Last weekend, the Candelaria Carnival once again showed its commitment to involving everyone, especially families and children. The events in the town featured a mix of internationally famous acts and a strong focus on getting local people, particularly kids, involved in the fun. This approach helps bring the community together and keeps traditions alive.
Saturday night kicked off with a 'Great Latin Night,' running from 8 PM until 4 AM at the municipal grounds next to the Town Hall. The famous artist Óscar D’León was the main act, following a performance by El Morocho y sus Latin Brothers, who played a variety of Caribbean rhythms. Bringing such well-known performers to public events highlights the local council's effort to offer rich cultural experiences and draw in a wide audience.
Sunday was all about the kids, with the 'Cosito – Parade of Children's Centers.' Children from Los Menceyes Municipal School and the Higo Pico and Indalín centers marched through the streets, starting from the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias and ending at the municipal area. They were joined by their families, the En Paralelo Danza group, and children's carnival troupes like Infantil Tropicana and Bella Mariana. This event really shows how much effort goes into involving young people to keep the carnival tradition alive in the Canary Islands.
The local council also used the opportunity to present awards to several participating groups, including the Antón Guanche Senior Group, Comparsa Tropicana, and Almagec. A special moment was the tribute to Comparsa Infantil Tropicana, celebrating its 30th anniversary with a commemorative video and a recognition plaque. Sunday's festivities wrapped up with the Choreographic Festival, opened by singer Arodi Llanos. Various local dance schools and clubs, such as the Municipal Schools of Dance, Modern Dance, and Oriental Dance from the Popular University, En Paralelo Danza, the Odali Sports Club of Arafo, Crew of Dreams, the Andreína Acosta Sports Club, and Ballet Beanky, showcased their performances. This festival highlighted the rich local talent and the council's support for dance in the community.
