Candelaria Begins New Public Parking Near Punta Larga
Candelaria City Council is developing a new public car park opposite the Punta Larga shopping center on donated land to ease traffic and address parking shortages in the busy area.
Candelaria City Council is working to ease traffic and make better use of public spaces, especially in busy areas. It has now started preparing a plot of land for public parking. This new car park is strategically placed opposite the Punta Larga shopping center, right next to the Los Menceyes promenade.
Work on the site began last month, including leveling the ground. The aim is to solve the parking shortage in this area, which is particularly bad on weekends. Many shops are open on Sundays and holidays, there are lots of restaurants, and the beach is nearby. All these attractions bring in a lot of visitors, leading to heavy traffic and a high demand for parking.
City officials confirmed that the Public Works and Services Department is behind this project. It was made possible because the developer of Punta Larga gave the land to the council for free. The developer agreed to the council's request to create a temporary car park, but one that is much better and bigger than any previous parking in this busy area, which sees a lot of foot and vehicle traffic.
This new car park is part of a larger effort by Candelaria City Council to create more outdoor parking areas. Similar projects have already been completed near the football field and Punta Larga Secondary School. Mayor Mari Brito has often highlighted the importance of "directly addressing a real need in the area" and "making a clear commitment to creating useful public spaces for residents."
It's worth noting that this new parking area is only a few meters from where the future Candelaria Auditorium is being built. That project is expected to finish by summer 2027 and is a major focus for urban development in this part of the town.
