Work has commenced on the foundations for Candelaria's new Municipal Auditorium, an 8.46 million euro multi-purpose cultural venue expected to be completed by summer 2027.

Work has begun on the foundations for the new Candelaria Municipal Auditorium. This follows the demolition of the old Los Menceyes bus station and the digging of the site, which were the loudest and most disruptive parts of the project.

"We know this is a complex undertaking, right in the heart of the municipality, but it is an investment in Candelaria's future," Mayor Mari Brito told reporters yesterday. She called the project "a long-awaited dream for our cultural groups and for all citizens, and seeing it underway is a great joy." The Mayor also expressed her satisfaction with how quickly this first phase is progressing. She noted that the City Council has collaborated closely with local bands and cultural groups to ensure the new auditorium meets the current and future needs of Candelaria's artists.

Bilba Construcciones e Infraestructuras SLU was awarded the contract for the project. Construction started in July 2025 and is expected to take 24 months. This means the auditorium should be finished by summer 2027, if everything goes to plan. The total cost, including IGIC tax, is 8,464,189 euros. The Cabildo is funding 80% of this, with Candelaria City Council covering the remaining 20%.

The new Candelaria Municipal Auditorium will be a modern, multi-purpose space with an innovative design, combining beauty and practicality. It's located on Los Menceyes Avenue, very close to the Punta Larga shopping center. The City Council highlights that this much-anticipated cultural venue will cover 4,561 square meters. It will host a wide variety of artistic and cultural events, such as music, theatre, dance, film screenings, educational programs, concerts, and group rehearsals. The building will also include important support facilities like changing rooms, dressing rooms, a dedicated rehearsal room, and underground parking accessible from Crugiola Street.

The main auditorium hall will seat 500 people and feature a stage with a fly tower. The music area will include six instrument practice spaces, three music and movement classrooms, a library, a multi-purpose room, a percussion room, and administrative offices.
