Lanzarote-born author and educator Lola Suárez will be honored for her significant contributions to Canarian literature and cultural promotion during tonight’s Women Writers' Day celebration at Espacio La Granja in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Lola Suárez, the featured author for this year’s Canary Islands Women Writers' Day, is being celebrated for her significant contributions to literature and education. Tonight at 7:00 p.m., an event at Espacio La Granja in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will honor the Lanzarote-born writer, highlighting her role in connecting the islands' cultural traditions with new generations of readers.

Born in Arrecife in 1955, Suárez has built a career that goes far beyond storytelling. After studying teaching and pedagogy in La Laguna in the early 1970s, she dedicated herself to both education and cultural promotion. Her work with the Los Silos Storytelling Festival, the Pialte program, and the magazine Marañuela has been essential in modernizing how reading is encouraged in Canary Island school libraries.

The tribute, attended by regional Minister of Culture Migdalia Machín, will include the presentation of a commemorative diploma and a biographical tribute by teacher Ana Belén Hormiga. The evening will also feature La huella de Lola, entre la calima y la maresía (Lola's Footprint, Between the Haze and the Sea Spray), a theatrical performance directed by Nacho Cabrera. The show, produced by Teatro La República, uses live music and performance to explore the author’s creative world, featuring actors Sara Álvarez and Toni Báez alongside pianist Antonio Brito.

This event is part of the ninth annual Women Writers' Day in the Canary Islands, which has been held around October 15 since 2018 to highlight the historical contributions of women to literature. By honoring Suárez, the event celebrates not only her writing but also her lasting impact on Canarian culture and her dedication to inspiring young readers. Admission to the event at Espacio La Granja is free until the venue reaches capacity.
