Canary Islands Weather Warnings Lifted
Spain's weather agency, Aemet, announced a significant improvement in the Canary Islands' weather, with all bad weather warnings expected to be lifted from Wednesday afternoon as normal conditions gradually return.
Spain's weather agency, Aemet, has announced a significant improvement in the weather across the Canary Islands. They expect to lift all bad weather warnings from Wednesday afternoon. This marks a turning point after a difficult morning, especially for the eastern islands, which had "orange" warnings for strong winds and rough seas – meaning a high risk. The rest of the islands mostly had "yellow" warnings.
On Tenerife, warnings will be lifted from 5:00 PM. Before then, the island will still face strong winds, with gusts up to 80 kilometers per hour. The strongest winds are expected in the high areas of the northeast, the southeast side of the metropolitan area, and especially in the dorsal mountain range and central peaks. Here, gusts could go over 90 kilometers per hour in the late afternoon and night. Early this morning, northwest winds were very powerful, hitting 100 kilometers per hour in the northwest ridge and highest peaks. However, these winds are expected to shift north and calm down after midday.
At sea, expect significant swells. North or northwest winds of 50 to 61 kilometers per hour (Force 7) will create combined waves from the north or northwest, reaching 4 to 5 meters high.
As for rain, Aemet says northern Tenerife will be cloudy with ongoing light to moderate rain, possibly turning into showers this morning. The rest of the island will see fewer clouds, with some cloudy spells in the afternoon. There's a small chance of light, scattered rain. On the peaks above 2000 meters, it might snow during the first half of the day.
High temperatures will rise slightly in lower areas, moderately at mid-altitudes and peaks, and significantly in the central peaks. Low temperatures will stay steady, with light to moderate frost expected on Teide. This overall improvement, which will reach El Hierro before midday, means normal weather conditions will gradually return across all the islands.
