Canary Islands Weather: Temperatures Drop and Calima Clears

Source: El Día

Temperatures are set to drop and air quality will improve across the Canary Islands this Wednesday as the lingering calima haze begins to clear.

The weather in the Canary Islands is set to change this Wednesday, May 27, as temperatures drop and air quality improves. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the dust haze—or calima—that has been affecting the region will begin to clear throughout the day.

While temperatures will fall across the islands, inland areas will see the most significant cooling. Even so, temperatures in mid-altitude areas are expected to remain near 30°C. This variation is typical for the islands, where trade winds and changing elevations create distinct microclimates.

Skies will generally be clear, though low clouds will persist along the northern coasts, particularly in the mornings and evenings. A light to moderate northerly wind is expected, with stronger gusts likely at the western and northeastern tips of the islands.

Conditions at higher altitudes will differ, with stronger westerly winds expected at the summits compared to the milder, variable winds found at lower levels. These wind patterns remain a key factor for local air and sea travel, as well as for managing water resources and monitoring forest fire risks across the archipelago.
