Canary Islands University Hospital Reopens Renovated Oncology Wing
The University Hospital of the Canary Islands has reopened its renovated oncology wing, featuring modernized facilities and improved climate control systems to enhance patient comfort and clinical care.
The University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) has reached a major milestone in its modernization efforts with the reopening of its newly renovated oncology wing on the 10th floor. The regional Ministry of Health announced the completion of the project, which aims to meet long-standing requests from patients and staff by creating a more comfortable, human-centered care environment.
The nine-week renovation transformed 700 square meters of space. While the wing maintains its capacity of 32 beds—spread across thirteen double rooms and six single rooms—every room has been fully updated. Beyond the cosmetic improvements, the hospital upgraded its telecommunications and information systems to better support daily clinical operations.
A key technical upgrade is the installation of a new air conditioning system specifically designed for the region’s climate. This change is expected to help manage summer temperatures, significantly improving comfort for patients and working conditions for staff.
This unit is a vital part of the hospital, recording 1,231 admissions last year. It is supported by a multidisciplinary team of over 50 professionals, including 14 oncologists, 17 nurses, 16 nursing assistants, and various administrative and support staff.
This project is part of a broader strategy to modernize HUC facilities. By creating more functional spaces, the hospital aims to improve the experience for patients and their families while ensuring healthcare workers have the environment they need to provide high-quality cancer care.
