Nearly 90% of students in the Canary Islands have passed the latest University Access Test, clearing the way for the pre-registration process for the 2026/27 academic year.

The latest University Access Test (PAU) results in the Canary Islands show a high success rate, continuing a trend that makes it easier for most students to move on to higher education. Official data confirms that nearly 90% of students who took the exams last week passed.

At the University of La Laguna (ULL), 89.17% of the 4,583 registered students passed. On average, these students had a grade of 8.24 in their Bachillerato studies, a 6.56 in the general phase of the PAU, and a final access grade of 7.57. By subject, Music and Performing Arts had the highest pass rate at 96.05%, followed by Science and Technology (92.49%), Visual Arts, Image and Design (85.98%), and Humanities and Social Sciences (85.42%).

Across the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, results were consistent: El Hierro led with 94.8%, followed by Tenerife (89.3%), La Palma (87.02%), and La Gomera (86.6%). Meanwhile, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) saw a 91.6% success rate, with very little difference between male (91.3%) and female (91.7%) students. The southern Gran Canaria campus performed best at 93.1%, while other campuses, including those in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, ranged between 87.7% and 92.4%.

With these results, the administrative process for the 2026/27 academic year has begun. Students who passed in June can pre-register until July 2. Admission lists will be published on July 8, with the first round of spots assigned on July 13. Students who did not pass have a second chance during the extraordinary exam session held in late June and early July. ULPGC students have until June 17 to request an exam review, with final decisions expected on June 19.

The high number of successful students is a key factor for public universities as they manage enrollment. With cutoff grades serving as the main selection tool, the pre-registration process is now the most important step for students looking to secure a spot in their chosen degree programs.
