Canary Islands TV Launches New Documentary Series 'Identidades' to Bridge Generational Gap
Canary Islands public television is launching Identidades, a new documentary series blending traditional research with modern digital storytelling to explore the archipelago’s cultural history and collective memory.
Canary Islands public television is launching a new documentary series, Identidades, aimed at exploring the archipelago’s collective memory. Produced by Multitrack, the series premieres this Friday at 10:00 p.m. and will be available on both the main television channel and the digital platform, Canarias Play.
The series aims to bridge the gap between generations. Directed by Benito Cabrera and Raúl Pulido, it moves away from traditional stereotypes to offer a modern look at island life. To help connect with younger viewers, digital content creators Elena Marrero and Luis Cabrera join Benito Cabrera as presenters. This approach is designed to share the islands' rich history, language, and music through platforms and styles that appeal to a younger audience.
The show blends documentary research with interviews and musical performances. Filming takes place not only across the Canary Islands but also in other Atlantic regions, highlighting the historical and cultural ties that have shaped the islands over time.
Identidades goes beyond simple storytelling to examine the core of Canarian society, covering everything from local place names to shared symbols. By bringing together established cultural figures and digital creators, the program encourages a deeper look at the Canary Islands' place in the world, using the past to better understand the present.
