The Canary Islands football team has made history by earning the right to represent Spain in the international part of the UEFA Regions' Cup.

The team won the national final of the tournament by beating Navarra 1-0. This victory means they will now compete in the European competition.

The deciding match took place at the Olympic Stadium in Terrassa. The only goal came from Santi Domínguez in the 58th minute, set up by Daniel Hernández. The Canary Islands secured their win in the final moments thanks to their goalkeeper, Cristian Galindo, who made crucial saves to stop Navarra from scoring an equalizer and forcing extra time.

This win caps off a strong performance in the national phase. The team, managed by Sergio Alonso, also beat Galicia 1-0 in the semi-finals. Now, the Canary Islands will prepare for the international stage, where they are in Group 5. They will play against teams from Hungary, Israel, and the host nation, Latvia.

The UEFA Regions' Cup is a tournament held every two years for amateur footballers. It gives regional teams a special chance to play against others from across Europe. By winning, the Canary Islands join other Spanish teams that have achieved this feat, such as Basque Country (2005), Castile and León (2009), Galicia (2023), and Aragon (2025). This cements their place in the history of Spanish amateur football.

The final itself saw a quiet first half with few scoring opportunities. Amai Felipe had a shot, and Noah Morales had to leave the game due to injury, replaced by Pablo Díaz before halftime. The second half became more exciting after the Canary Islands scored. Navarra tried hard to get back into the game with efforts from Iker Gil and Daniel Pérez, but the Canary Islands' strong defence and Galindo's important saves kept them ahead. The referee, David López, booked several players from both sides during the match.
