Canary Islands to Host Free BAFTA Short Film Screenings in New Cultural Partnership
The Insularia-Islands of the World Network International Film Festival and the British Council have partnered to host free screenings of BAFTA-nominated short films across the Canary Islands throughout October.
Cultural offerings across the Canary Islands are becoming more accessible this week, thanks to a new partnership between the Insularia-Islands of the World Network International Film Festival and the British Council. This Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes will host a free screening of the short films featured in the latest British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA). Entry is free, though seating is limited.
Short films are a powerful way to explore modern social issues, and this selection ranges from intimate personal stories to ambitious technical projects. Highlights include the award-winning This Is Endometriosis by Georgie Wileman and Matt Houghton, which offers a personal look at living with a chronic condition, and Baz Sells’ Two Black Boys in Paradise, an animated film that examines identity and relationships within the LGBTQIA+ community.
This screening is just the beginning of a wider tour. The Insularia festival has announced that its Panorama section will bring these films to La Gomera, La Graciosa, La Palma, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura throughout the second half of October. By taking these internationally acclaimed works beyond the major island capitals, the initiative ensures that audiences across the archipelago have the opportunity to experience cutting-edge British cinema.
