Schools and universities across the Canary Islands have suspended in-person classes as severe weather conditions prompt safety warnings from authorities.

Severe weather in the Canary Islands has forced schools and universities to cancel in-person classes. The Ministry of Education suspended classes in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and La Palma due to dangerous weather conditions expected between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The University of La Laguna has also moved all activities online starting at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, closing its campuses to everyone except essential staff.

These measures follow official government safety protocols and warnings from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). Authorities decided to prioritize the safety of students and staff as heavy rain is expected to worsen throughout the evening.

This is a temporary measure. Officials hope to resume normal operations on Wednesday, depending on how the storm develops and whether it is safe for students and staff to travel.
