In 2024, the Canary Islands saw a 10.1% increase in speeding fines, with the Vía de Ronda radar on Tenerife's TF-13 issuing the most tickets, totaling 9,491, as traffic authorities reiterate speed cameras are primarily for safety.

Speed cameras are a major worry for many drivers. It's easy to get distracted and accidentally go over the speed limit, leading to a fine.

However, it's important to remember that all speed checks are clearly marked with signs to warn you.

In 2024, a total of 3,440,655 drivers across the country received speeding fines. Of these, 113,942 were in the Canary Islands, which is a 10.1% increase from the year before. This shows that speeding is still the most common traffic violation in the Canary Islands.

According to the organization Automovilistas Europeos Asociados (AEA), the speed camera issuing the most fines in Tenerife is located in a very busy spot.

This radar, known as the Vía de Ronda radar on the TF-13 road, is one of the oldest and most active in the region. This is because of the heavy traffic in the area.

In 2024, this speed camera issued 9,491 fines. While this is a lot, it's less than in 2023, when it caught 14,310 drivers.

The second busiest speed camera in Tenerife is on the TF-1 (Autopista del Sur) at kilometer 59, close to Granadilla de Abona. This camera recorded 5,943 drivers exceeding the speed limit in 2024.

The TF-1 is a key road on the island, connecting the capital city with the airport and the popular tourist areas in the south. It's also a route frequently used by tourists, contributing to the number of speeding fines.

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) and groups like AEA emphasize that speed cameras are not there to make money. Their main purpose is to prevent road accidents and ensure drivers stick to speed limits for everyone's safety.

So, drivers in Tenerife should be mindful of their speed on roads with speed checks to avoid getting a ticket.
