Canary Islands Selects 10 Sonora 2026 Music Finalists
Ten diverse acts have been named finalists for the Canary Islands' Sonora 2026 music competition, culminating in April performances and offering winners festival opportunities across the islands.
The Canary Islands' efforts to support new music talent are getting a boost with the recent selection of the Sonora 2026 finalists. Ten acts, showing the islands' diverse creativity, have been picked for the final stage of the competition, organizers announced.
A specialized jury reviewed 195 applications last weekend. The competition will end with live final performances on April 17 and 18 at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The projects competing for the awards are Los Blody, Belice, Usted, Casablanca III, Xerach, Bífidos, Eric Böelle, Good Franco, Lula Mora, and Pokzipol Poops. These artists come from across the islands, showing how inclusive the competition is. Four groups are from Gran Canaria, four from Tenerife, one has members from both main islands, and another combines talent from Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.
Besides cash prizes, finalists are competing for "Sonora Passports." This important initiative will let them perform at major festivals throughout the Canary Islands. This year, even more opportunities are available, with new festivals joining the network. These include La Graciosa, Womex in Gran Canaria, El Festivalito in La Palma, and Atlántico Sonoro in La Gomera. This greatly increases the exposure and professional chances for the chosen musicians.
