Canary Islands Residents Strike Gold in National Lottery Draw

Lucky winners in the Canary Islands are celebrating after Saturday's National Lottery draw on October 18th!

The first prize (number 70504) and second prize (number 02133) were both won in the islands, according to Loterías y Apuestas del Estado.

The winning first prize ticket, worth €600,000, was sold in El Cantillo, Tacoronte, Tenerife. Other winning tickets for the top prize were sold in Baza (Granada), Coslada and Madrid, and Salamanca.

The second prize ticket, worth €120,000, was also sold in Tenerife, this time in Puerto de la Cruz. Other winning tickets for the second prize were sold in Madrid, Teruel, Anna, Mislata and Valencia, and Benavente (Zamora).

How to Play the National Lottery Online:

First, choose which draw you want to enter (there are usually at least four available).

Then, pick your 5-digit number. You can choose the numbers yourself or let the system pick them randomly for you. Just put asterisks in place of any digits you don't want to select. You also need to say how many tickets ('tenths') you want to buy (between 1 and 10).

If you pick a specific number, it might not be available if it's already been sold or is only available through certain lottery outlets.

The tickets you buy online are virtual, meaning you won't get a paper ticket. Paper tickets are only sold in official lottery shops. However, online tickets have the same chance of winning as paper tickets. The big difference is that if you win with a paper ticket, you need to present it to claim your prize. If you win online, the prize will be paid out automatically, just like with other online games.

The price of each ticket depends on the specific draw.

You win a prize if your number (or parts of it) matches a winning number in the draw. Prizes include the first prize, second prize, prizes for matching the last digits, consolation prizes, and refunds.
