Canary Islands productions, including "Norbert," "Todos somos Gaza," and "Maspalomas," are prominently featured with multiple nominations at the Goya 2026 Awards, highlighting the archipelago's growing role in the Spanish film industry.

The upcoming Goya Awards, set for February 28, 2026, will prominently feature productions with ties to the Canary Islands. This highlights the archipelago's growing importance as a key player in the Spanish film industry. Preliminary information suggests that three projects with direct involvement from the Islands have been nominated in various categories. This reflects the vibrant local film sector and the success of policies that have made the Canary Islands an attractive destination for filming and post-production.

Among the nominated works, the animated film "Norbert" features contributions from the Tenerife-based studio 3 Doubles. This studio received support from the Canary Islands Government's 2021 Production funding program. The team from the Canary Islands played a role in key development stages, from initial modeling to the final composition. This isn't 3 Doubles' first recognition; last year, they were finalists in the same category with "SuperKlaus," demonstrating their consistent expertise and quality in animation.

In the documentary category, "Todos somos Gaza" (We Are All Gaza) is nominated for Best Documentary Film. This project originated in Gran Canaria (Videoreport Canarias SL) and Fuerteventura (Doc Land Canarias). Directed by Hernán Zin, it continues the themes explored in "Nacido en Gaza" (Born in Gaza) (2014), focusing on socially relevant stories and showcasing the islands' film industry's involvement in such productions.

Finally, the feature film "Maspalomas," which includes scenes shot on the famous beach in southern Gran Canaria, is the third most nominated production this year, with a total of nine nominations. It's in the running for major awards like Best Film and Best Director, along with technical and artistic recognitions including Art Direction, Makeup and Hair, Original Score, Cinematography, and Original Screenplay.

The strong presence of these productions at the Goya 2026 Awards not only showcases the growth of the Canary Islands' film sector but also its ability to integrate and compete within Spain's top national film circuit. This success is a clear result of effective promotional policies and local talent.
