The Canary Islands government has opened the nomination process for the 2027 Canary Islands Letters Day and Canary Islands Women Writers Day, inviting institutional submissions until May 31 to honor authors who have significantly contributed to the region's literary heritage.

The Canary Islands government is entering a new chapter in how it preserves and celebrates the region's literary history. The Vice-Ministry of Culture and Cultural Heritage has officially opened the call for nominations to honor authors for the 2027 Canary Islands Letters Day and Canary Islands Women Writers Day.

The government is looking to involve the wider community in the selection process. Until May 31, universities, local councils, island governments, research centers, and publishing organizations can submit their nominations exclusively through the government’s online portal.

Once the submission period closes, a committee of experts in the arts and humanities will review the candidates. This panel will evaluate each author’s career, focusing on those who have made significant contributions or creative breakthroughs to the islands' cultural landscape.

Following this expert review, the Ministry of Culture will present its recommendations to the Governing Council, which holds the final authority to select the honorees for 2027. This process is designed to strengthen the region's literary heritage by giving formal, high-level recognition to writers whose work has had a lasting impact.
