Canary Islands Opens Bidding for €66.4M TF-5 Highway Widening
The Canary Islands government is inviting bids for a €66.4 million project to add a third lane to the TF-5 highway between Guamasa and Tenerife North Airport, aiming to improve traffic flow by redesigning interchanges and adding a new airport access.
The Canary Islands government's Department of Public Works is inviting bids for the construction of a third lane on the TF-5 highway. This new lane will cover the stretch between Guamasa and Tenerife North Airport, heading towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The government sees this as a crucial project to improve traffic flow and capacity on this important road.
The project has an initial budget of over 66.4 million euros. Companies interested in the work have until February 9 to submit their proposals.
The Department announced that the current two-lane section between Guamasa and the airport will be widened to three lanes. This expansion will help manage more traffic in what is currently one of the island's most congested road areas.
The plans also include redesigning the Guamasa and San Lázaro interchanges, and building a new direct interchange for the North Airport. This new interchange will separate traffic coming from and going to the north and south. This means vehicles approaching from the north will use the new Airport interchange to access the airport, rather than continuing to San Lázaro as they do now. The Department explained that this reorganization will allow some traffic to leave the busiest part of the TF-5 sooner, which will directly help improve overall traffic flow.
