Spain's State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) issued 'yellow' weather alerts for Wednesday, January 28, warning of rough seas with waves up to five meters affecting multiple Canary Islands.

Spain's State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) issued 'yellow' weather alerts this Monday for coastal conditions expected on Wednesday, January 28. These warnings apply to the northern and metropolitan areas of Tenerife, as well as La Palma, El Hierro, the coasts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, and the northwest of Gran Canaria.

The alerts are due to rough seas coming from the northwest, with waves expected to reach four to five meters high. While this is considered a low-risk situation, there's over a 70% chance it will occur.

Aemet's forecast indicates that these rough sea warnings cover eight different areas across the Canary Islands, particularly affecting the northwest coasts where the waves are predicted to be highest.

For La Palma, the coastal warning starts at midnight on Wednesday and continues until just before midnight, covering both the east and west sides of the island. Throughout the day, rough seas from the northwest, with waves of four to five meters, could create challenging conditions along the coast.

El Hierro's yellow warning begins at 3:00 AM and lasts until the end of the day. Aemet forecasts northeast swells there, with waves potentially reaching five meters.

In Tenerife, the warning for the north and metropolitan areas also starts at 3:00 AM, with sea conditions expected to worsen as the day progresses.

Warnings for the eastern islands will start a bit later. Gran Canaria's north and Lanzarote will see their yellow alerts begin at 6:00 AM, while Fuerteventura's alert starts at 8:00 AM on Wednesday. Like the other islands, these areas can expect rough northwest seas with waves of four to five meters. These warnings are generally expected to remain in place until just before midnight.
