The eighth Canary Islands Music Awards has revealed its list of finalists, showcasing a vibrant industry that blends seasoned professionals with rising stars. The winners across fourteen categories will be announced on December 2 at the Leal Theatre in La Laguna, following a rigorous selection process that reviewed 380 submissions.

The finalists highlight the impressive diversity of the archipelago’s music scene. For Best Song, the jury selected La Herida by Cristina Mahelo, Agua Bendita by Marilia Monzón, and Siempre Queda El Amor, a collaboration between Pedro Guerra, Juan Luis Guerra, and 4.40. Pedro Guerra is also a contender for Best Pop Album, competing against Efecto Pasillo and Xerach. Xerach is a standout this year, earning four nominations for her musical performance, visual art, and graphic design work.

The nominations reflect a broad spectrum of local talent. The rock category features Bífidos, Pumuky, and The Cheapest Red Wine, while the jazz category highlights Carlos Meneses, Pleito, and the Yul Ballesteros Trío. Roots music—a cornerstone of island culture—is represented by Benito Cabrera, Compañía Pieles, and the duo of Germán López and Augusto Báez. The urban scene is also well-represented by Liane, Lucho RK with La Pantera, and Profecia Crew.

Organized by the Canary Islands Music Awards Association and Radio Canaria, with support from the regional government and La Laguna City Council, the event also honors the technical side of the industry. Awards will be presented for graphic design, audiovisual production, recording studios, and sound engineering. The ceremony also recognizes excellence in cultural management, music programming, and classical music, with nominations for Fernando Ortí, José Manuel Brito López, and Laura Vega Santana.

More than just a showcase, these awards serve as a vital measure of the Canarian cultural ecosystem. The event will conclude with the presentation of an Honorary Award, cementing the ceremony’s status as the premier professional recognition for creators and managers across the islands.
