Canary Islands Launch 'Magister Musicae' Program to Decentralize Advanced Musical Training
The Magister Musicae: Resonances of the Future program has launched in Tenerife, offering intensive masterclasses from renowned artists to decentralize and elevate advanced musical training in the Canary Islands.
The launch of Magister Musicae: Resonances of the Future in the Canary Islands highlights a growing shift toward decentralizing advanced musical training in Spain. According to the CajaCanarias Foundation, this intensive program goes beyond traditional classroom learning by combining technical skill with artistic development—a balance increasingly sought after by professional musicians.
Organized by Anaga Classics and led by cellist Miguel Jaubert, the program has already reached full capacity, reflecting strong interest from both conservatory students and working professionals. The curriculum features masterclasses in piano, voice, violin, and cello, led by renowned artists including Asier Polo, Marta Zabaleta, Raquel Lojendio, Irene Alfageme, and Valerie Steenken.
The event, which runs until this Saturday, is being held across several venues in Tenerife, including the Higher Conservatory of Music of the Canary Islands, the Professional Conservatory of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the CajaCanarias Foundation, the Círculo de Amistad XII de Enero, and the Real Casino de Tenerife. By spreading activities across these locations, the program integrates high-level musical training directly into the city’s cultural life.
During the official launch, Jaubert, along with Higher Conservatory director Roberto Pia and CajaCanarias education head Mariano León, emphasized the value of direct mentorship in helping musicians find their own artistic voice. The program will conclude with a public student recital this Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the Círculo de Amistad XII de Enero.
