Canary Islands Launch Funding Program to Boost Global Reach for Local Creatives
The Canary Islands government has awarded nearly 325,000 euros to support 253 creative projects, helping local professionals cover travel costs to reach international audiences.
The Canary Islands’ creative sector has received a major boost following the first round of grants designed to cover travel costs for local professionals. According to the regional Ministry of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture, this initiative aims to overcome the logistical challenges of island life, helping local talent reach audiences far beyond the archipelago.
The regional government has approved 253 projects, providing nearly 325,000 euros in funding. This covers 90% of all applications submitted, marking a highly successful start to the program. These projects will reach nearly thirty countries across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia, highlighting the growing international reach of Canary Island creators.
Managed by the General Directorate of Cultural Innovation and Creative Industries, this program is part of a broader one-million-euro strategy divided into three phases. The first round, covering travel between November 2025 and April 2026, has already been finalized. Officials are currently reviewing applications for the second round (May to July 2026), and the final application window for travel between August and October 2026 will open from October 1 to October 15.
To ensure transparency, the government has published the scores and funding amounts for each proposal on the Ministry’s notice board and the official website (www.icdcultural.org). By helping creators access foreign markets and international networks, this initiative provides essential support for a sector that relies on global reach to thrive.
