The Canary Islands’ International Theater Week is celebrating its latest edition with a special tribute to Delirium Teatro, marking the company’s 40th anniversary through a series of performances and virtual discussions running until March 28.

The Canary Islands’ theater scene is in the spotlight this week with the International Theater Week, organized by Zálatta. This year’s event features a special tribute to Delirium Teatro, a company celebrating 40 years of continuous work. Under the leadership of Severiano García and Soraya González del Rosario, the group has become a cornerstone of island dramaturgy.

This anniversary highlights the resilience of the independent arts community. To explore Delirium’s legacy, the festival will host a virtual discussion titled 40 Delirios this Sunday. The event will be streamed via the Ibero-American Scene Network (REI) and offers a chance to reflect on how long-standing companies have helped shape the local performing arts sector.

The festival runs until March 28 and features a mix of performances and discussions. It kicks off this Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the Zálatta Espacio Escénico in La Laguna (Carretera Monte de las Mercedes, 119) with San Valentín no sabe de amor, performed by Benayga Taller de Teatro.

The schedule continues online on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. with a staged reading of La pelota de hilo de lana by the group Here & Now, available through the Ibero-American Scene Network. In-person events in La Laguna resume Thursday at 8:30 p.m. with Cedarpre’s multimedia production, Yerma. Espectáculo didáctico. On Friday at 8:30 p.m., Zálatta Teatro and Carro de Baco will present La leyenda del pequeño hombre.

The week concludes on Saturday, March 28, with an official ceremony honoring Delirium Teatro, marking the end of a celebration dedicated to the history and importance of the performing arts.
