The 35th Canary Islands International Jazz & More Festival reaches its final weekend, wrapping up a program that began on July 3rd. Organizers say the closing events will be split between Gran Canaria and Tenerife, reinforcing the festival’s status as a key fixture in the islands' cultural calendar.
Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife will serve as the hub for the finale. The schedule kicks off this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Espacio Playa Martiánez, featuring trumpeter Ernesto Montenegro and his quintet, followed by the Norwegian group Tora Daa. On Saturday at noon, the festival will host an educational event at the Sala Andrómeda in Lago Martiánez. Titled Ponké and the City of Jazz, the session is designed to introduce newcomers to the genre, focusing on the importance of improvisation and creative freedom.
The grand finale takes place Saturday at 7:30 p.m. back at Espacio Playa Martiánez. The closing show features the Yul Ballesteros Trio alongside Cuban saxophonist Ariel Brínguez and Ivorian bassist Manou Gallo. Over its 35-year history, the festival has proven the islands' ability to host a world-class jazz event, which experts note is vital for both tourism and the local creative community.
