Canary Islands Host IsLABentura Pitching Event to Boost Local Content Creation
The fifth edition of IsLABentura Canarias is currently underway in Gran Canaria, connecting emerging screenwriters with major industry leaders to establish the archipelago as a premier hub for original audiovisual content development.
The Canary Islands are cementing their status as a key hub for the Spanish audiovisual industry this week as the fifth edition of IsLABentura Canarias reaches its final stage. This government-backed program, run by Canary Islands Film, is now putting its participants' projects to the test before major industry leaders.
The town of Agaete, in Gran Canaria, is hosting the event. This Friday, the local House of Culture will serve as the venue for pitching sessions, where screenwriters will present their work to a delegation of over twenty national and regional production companies. Confirmed attendees include industry heavyweights such as Movistar Plus, Secuoya, Onza, Portocabo, Fasten Films, and Buendía Estudios.
Beyond marking the end of a mentoring cycle for the writers, the event highlights a broader institutional goal: transforming the archipelago into a center for original content creation. By connecting creative talent directly with film and television financiers and distributors, the program bridges the gap between ideas and production. The event will conclude this Saturday with an awards ceremony honoring the projects with the most commercial potential.
This initiative comes at a time when the Canary Islands are already well-known for their tax incentives and popularity as a filming location. By fostering these direct connections between creators and producers, the laboratory aims to move beyond providing filming services and instead integrate the islands into the core of the script development process—a vital step for the long-term growth of the Spanish audiovisual sector.
